Story Notes:
This is Part Five of my Seven Deadly Ficathon and was written for Sionnach Ayame, who selected Angel, Willow, and envy.

The Green of Golden Eyes

Willow never forgets what Oz is.

There are reasons Angel doesn’t want to spend time with Willow and Oz, even though he knows Willow gave him back his soul, even though he knows that should impel him to offer his friendship.

Willow never forgets what Oz is.

Buffy forgets. She speaks of a future – a human future – with children and a normal life. She opens the curtains without thinking. She kisses him without remembering what they can never share again.

Willow never forgets what Oz is.

He’s heard Willow cheerfully banter about being on ‘Oz duty’, the acceptance of his wolf an almost tactile quality in each syllable she speaks. She’d have readily forgiven him if he’d killed; she knows the difference between the wolf and the man…but she loves them both.

Willow never forgets what Oz is.

What would it be like – loving a girl he could talk to without fear, one who wouldn’t need to be reminded that he’s not a normal man? Of course, he made his own choice and the limitations are his own fault. He gave himself over to a Slayer. He knows what that means – he’s always known – and he wouldn’t give up that sense of redemption he finds in her arms. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t wish he could have it both ways.

Willow never forgets what Oz is.

Angel loves Buffy… and a part of him hates Willow. She gave him back his soul, but they’ll never be friends. Not as long as she’s the green on the other side of the fence.

Willow never forgets what Oz is.
